For nearly a year now I have been contemplating on whether or not to follow my passion and pursue writing as a career. So for me, this book could not have been written at a better time.I have read a few books on the business of writing, this book is the best that I have come across thus far.
Each chapter is filled with valuable information, and insight for making money as a writer.
What caught my eye initially was the “six-figure” title, and it really resonated with me. Most books I have come across try and sell you pipe dreams, or try and make it sound like becoming a best selling author is easy. Sure, who wouldn’t want to make a million dollars, but for me personally I’d be more than happy earning six figures a year, doing a job I love, and supporting my family. This book doesn’t sell the preverbal snake oil, instead they focus on helping guide you to set realistic and reachable goals.

This is a much needed, up-to-date guide for freelancers and entrepreneurs hoping to turn their passion or side venture into a full time career.
I found the two perspectives of how to handle handshake/face-to-face clients and web based profits super helpful. The authors present a fun, whipsmart guide that is easy to navigate and full of practical action steps.
This is not your typical fluff guide with feel good mantras about how to write. It is for those writers who want to take action and need insightful information on how to make a living doing what they love.
As an aspiring writer, this book offered a lot of insight without the pie-in-the-sky sensibilities. It was very instructive and the anecdotes are informed by honest and reasonable approaches towards finding success in a very challenging industry. Most importantly, the book not only highlights some profitable paths, it also notes many of the mistakes that writers make. All in all, it was a very relatable and engaging read, presenting advice in a measured way that does not overpromise or insult the reader's intelligence. I've definitely dogeared a couple of pages and when I'm feeling stuck on an idea or plan of attack, I revisit them for reference.

It's also a fun read with a lot of humor throughout. You gain great insight without even realizing it. It's very well indexed for those looking for specific guidance. It's also refreshing to read a book that isn't a 200-page warning for how difficult the grind of writing can be.
If you love writing I general, this book covers a very broad spectrum. The authors have a great deal of experience writing in many different capacities and can offer a wealth of knowledge for writing anything from screenplays to young-adult novels!

On a more nuts and bolts level, I like the idea of batch scheduling — very smart. And I will take the advice on not dressing like a shlub to heart and try and look more professional, vs someone who spends more than half his life unshowered/unshaven staring at a computer screen in a poorly lit room.
A fantastic book for those that love writing, but struggle to make the jump from hobby/passion to career. It's easy to read, easy to understand, and well organized. I really enjoy the highlighted tip boxes for when I need to quickly get the most out of a section quickly, and it's well indexed to you can jump right to the areas that apply to where you're at in your writing career.
It's great to find a book about making money as a writer that's positive (as opposed to so many that try to discourage you away), and it's also a lot of fun to read, with a very sly sense of humor. Can't knock the hustle!.
