Sable Hunter and her cowriter Ryan O'Neal are at the top of my auto buy list. With every book they continue to set the bar higher and higher. This book is well written with a full developed plot and intruiging characters. In many of Sable's books the hero and his love ignite sparks from the get go. This book deviates from that a bit in that Maverick and Everly start out as friends and develop deeper feelings as their relationship progresses. Sometime what you have always wanted and needed is right in front of your face. The heat factor is high as usual and as an added bonus the authors include very detailed descriptions of the Austin area. I loved this book!!!Product details

The story of Everly and Maverick is wonderful. The chemistry between the two of them is powerful they just don't figure it for awhile. They become friendly neighbors and it just takes off from there. Sable Hunter is one of my favorite authors. All her series are fabulous but they should come with a warning "You will not be able to put it down."
Sable you make me smile.
Maverick and Everly's story is a fun romp on the west side of Austin. Sable weaves a tale of two islands building a bridge (the Pennybacker?) to each other. Along the way readers get to visit places that are familiar to Austinites. We love our spring wildflowers, life on the Coloado, Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock, and 6th Street.
For readers not familiar with Austin, Jack Allen's Kitchen is real and has awesome food.
Wow, the way Ms Hunter describes neighbors not knowing each other really is spot on. This story doesn't have a "big bad guy" like most of the authors other works. It's more about real life and social interactions. To be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sometimes a story like this is perfect.
I liked that Maverick discovered his faults on his own, he had to see it for himself. I am glad there wasn't the added drama of a third party. That made this book unique and well worth reading and definitely worth putting in my re-read pile. I'll be reading it again soon.
Mav is chasing his girlfriend out the door after a fight when his neighbor says something to him. He never even noticed her. After they talk, they decide to be each other's wingmen in helping the other out with finding dates. They start using a black board between their apartments to leave each other notes. The more time they spend together, the more they want without telling the other. Out of the blue, Mav realizes he is in love with Every. Hopefully she feels the same.
This story helped me forget about the challenges that are currently occurring in my life at this moment. For a few precious hours, I was absorbed within the world of Maverick and Everly. It was refreshing to read a story that contained a hero who showed tricky unique characteristics, including the challenges associated with ptsd. This enriching story also contained some interesting facts related to the state of Texas. Congratulations to Hunter and O'Riley for another fantastic read!
While I've never been to Austin, I feel like I know the city from reading this latest release in the Texas Heroes series.
Everly is the kind of person we all should want to be - loving, kind, outgoing, artistic, talented, with a heart of pure gold. She and Maverick are next door neighbors but don't really know each other until she offers to help him with his lady problems. He can't seem to keep a girl more than one night and she's sure she can help him with that. But along the way, they develop a deeply honest friendship. Of course there are bumps and bruises along the way, but in true Sable Hunter/Ryan O'Leary fashion, they eventually reach their HEA.
If you've never read Sable Hunter, this is an excellent place to start. In my opinion, she never disappoints the reader and always leaves you wanting more.
Maverick is a fireman, who was in the military and has PTSD problems. He lives next door to Everly, a columnist for an Austin newspaper. He doesn't want attachments because of the PTSD so tends to have a lot of one night stands.
Everly hears not only his PTSD outbursts, but his sex life too. The wall dividing their apartments is not that thick. She is attracted to Maverick and knowing he would never give her a thought, she decided to become friends and help introduce the right women to him.
Without realizing it at first, while the women she introduced to him were the type he normally wanted, he wasn't getting turned on by them. After a while he realized his body only reacted around Everly. They started having sex, but Everly wasn't sure why. She was, however, able to calm him when he would have episodes at night.
Everly writes under a different name and Maverick doesn't know this. However, he reads the column faithfully and would love to meet the woman writer. He feels like so many of her articles fit him.
These two have an interesting relationship; funny, confusing, no matter what they have each other's backs, misunderstandings, and lots of making up. It is a very good story and one I would recommend reading.
